With a strong wind blowing out at Wrigley Field, the Phillies defeat the Cubs, 23-22. In addition to the wind, there was a strong suck coming from the pitcher's mound.

Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin, Hank Bauer, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra and Johnny Kucks of the Yankees are involved in a brawl at the Copacabana nightclub in New York when they come to the defense of Sammy Davis, Jr. The Yankees won the fight by popping Davis's glass eye out of his head, putting it in a sock, and swinging it around wildly.

President George H.W. Bush takes Queen Elizabeth to an Oakland A's-Baltimore Orioles baseball game. The game was marred when Reggie Jackson tried to kill her.
Dec 31st 1969
A fire breaks out beneath the rightfield bleachers during a game between Baltimore and Boston and eventually destroys 170 buildings in Boston. The fire started from the friction caused by a teenage couple dry riding under the bleachers.

Reggie Jackson becomes the first player to strike out 2,000 times. It was shame over this feat that caused Jackson to slip into depression, leading to his attempt to kill Queen Elizabeth.

The American Bowling Congress abolishes its white-males only membership restriction. The new restriction tightened the requirements, allowing only fat, bald, low-income, white males to bowl, a policy that has remained in place to this day.

Yankees catcher Yogi Berra ends his streak of 148 errorless games. Berra commented that making an error seemed "like Deja vu all over again."

Hank Aaron hits the only inside-the-park of his career. Heaving as he crossed home plate, Aaron decided it would be far easier to pass Babe Ruth by hitting balls over the fence.
