Mark Sanchez left unexpectedly (unexpectedly to Pete Carroll, at least). Presumptive starting quarterback Aaron Corp missed two weeks of summer practice with a cracked fibula. While he was out, true freshman Matt Barkley took the job. Barkley is the first true freshman to start at quarterback in USC's history, and true freshman tend not to win national championships. On defense, eight starters from last season's unit are gone. And now starting receiver Ronald Johnson is going to miss six-to-eight weeks with a broken collarbone.
