SP:Do you have any sports background?
Samantha:I'm a better fan than a player but I have played a few sports in my time. I played softball (catcher and third) for five years and then when I got to highschool I ran track (400M babyyy) and threw javelin. Except I hated competeing in javelin because I knew I was no good so whenever they called the event I pretended like I didn't hear it.
SP:I hear that's Team USA's plan for the World Cup.What is your favorite sport to watch?
Samantha:Hmm this is tough. My favorite sport to watch live is definitely hockey. There's so much intensity in the air because everyone wants to see a fight. I also looove being able to pound on the glass and get rowdy without people thinking I'm crazy. My favorite sport to watch period is basketball though..
SP:Who is your favorite team?
Samantha:My favorite team is the Boston Celtics. Each player plays like they want to win, there's nothing snobby about them, and they really appreciate their fans…I'm getting emotional..but seriously. My favorite athlete is Derek Jeter, believe it or not. Yep, I'm right in the heart of Red Sox nation but Derek Jeter gets my vote (partially because I'm in love with him). I read his biography when I was younger and he's just a stand-up guy. He runs a bunch of foundations, he remains level headed in games, no steroids, a great player, he's humble, I mean really I could go on for hours..
SP: Okay, so we're definitely not going to publish your last name. For your own safety. So you're a Boston fan, notwithstanding the Jeter-ness. Ever met any Boston players?
Samantha:Ugh I wish. I have met a bunch of different NBA players though. Whenever they come into town to play the Celts they practice in my schools gym..so that's kinda cool?
SP: Anything else you'd like to add?
Samantha:Well, I'm a broadcast journalism major and I want to focus on sports reporting…so maybe one day you'll see me on the side-lines at a Celtics game!!
