Notre Dame hoping to recapture the glory of that close loss to USC

With Charlie Weis officially out at Notre Dame, the university is looking for a replacement that will be able to get the program back to the heady days when they were narrowly losing to national powers like USC — as Weis was briefly able to do in the sixth game of his five-year tenure. "Charlie's greatest failure as head coach was not having enough close losses to teams like USC. Most of his were blowouts," said athletics director Jack Swarbrick. "People around here still talk about that USC game, the excitement of almost winning. It was magical. That's what we want to get back to. And we will stand for nothing less. This is Notre Dame."
