David Beckham achieves season-long goal of MLS season ending
As the penalty kick from Real Salt Lake defender Robbie Russel found the back of the net to beat the Los Angeles Galaxy for the MLS Cup, Galaxy star David Beckham finally achieved everything he had hoped for this MLS season. "Thank God. It's over," said Beckham. "It took a little longer than I had hoped -- I never expected us to reach teh playoffs, and my contract says I have to stick around for the playoffs. But now, mercifully, it's over. I can go back to Europe and play." Beckham did say, however, that he hopes the Galaxy improve next year and take another run at the MLS Cup. "If they get better, maybe I don't have to play the whole regular season," he said. "Maybe they'd just let me show up for the playoffs. Or, how knows, maybe that would mess up team chemistry. Maybe they pay me my full salary to not play at all?"
