NFL Referee Performs Celebratory Dance After Perfectly Called Penalty

After having his call upheld on review Monday night that Vikings defensive back Devonte Edwards was not down by contact on an interception return, lead official Walt Anderson ran to midfield and performed a 15-second, gyrating dance routine to the delight of the crowd.

“I’ve been an official three years in the NFL already and I’m nowhere near as well-known as the likes of Ed Hochuli,” said Anderson. “I want to get mine, you know? And it was Monday Night Football, Lambeau Field – there’s no better place to do it, so once I was done peaking in that review hood and saw I made the right call, I knew it was my time to shine.”

Anderson says he is delighted to be the first referee to do a post-call dance.

“Officials have been talking about doing something like this for a while now,” said Anderson. “It was only a matter of who would do it first. I see myself as a bit of a pioneer now. Hopefully before long we’ll all be doing it after every good call we make. If the coaches are allowed to yell and curse at us for every little thing without repercussion, and players can disrespect us and dance and strut after the most inconsequential plays, there’s no reason we shouldn’t be allowed to celebrate what we do.”

Hochuli says he is proud of Edwards for having the courage to be the first dancing referee.

“Now that he’s done it I think the floodgates are open,” he said. “This week I’m planning to cap some of my calls with a big flexing routine. I might even tear my shirt off so the whole nation can scope my massive biceps.”
