Inspired by the recent outpouring of tweets demonstrating the subpar living conditions in Sochi, Russia, for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, a forgotten star of the 2012 Summer Olympics tweeted pictures of his own terrible living conditions, those of the Motel 6 he’s been living in for the past eight months.
“i feel u, sochi olympians,” swimmer Ryan Lochte wrote on Twitter Tuesday, as caption for one of many pictures of his disheveled, Indiana motel room in which he claims to be training. “Can u believ this? Wheres House Keeping?”
He then tweeted again, captioning a picture of what looked to be piles of crumpled job applications strewn across the floor.
“they had 4 hrs to prepare room when i was out swimmin in motel pool. Unaccptble. & dont get me started on drinkability of hotel pool water.”
The 29 year-old swimmer and former star of the failed reality TV show “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?,” has shared
more than 30 photos, ending the majority with the hashtag #Motel6Problems. As of noon Tuesday, #Motel6Problems was not a trending topic on Twitter.
“WISH i had multiple toilets in my room. dont even have ONE [that works] #Motel6Problems,” read another tweet, this one featuring a picture of Lochte’s toilet, clogged with what appeared to be the remnants of burned Wheaties boxes featuring the face of Olympic foe Michael Phelps.
Some Twitter followers pointed out that Lochte is to blame for the majority of his problems, prompting a response from the swimmer.
“Nah, was like this when i got here. Pretty sure thers corruption or somethin in motel 6 chain. Gon make best of situation tho. C U all in sochi 2016!”
