Despite being a heavy favorite in the Sugar Bowl, the Alabama Crimson Tide was dominated by Oklahoma Thursday night, losing 45-31 — the two-time defending national champion’s second consecutive loss. ESPN cameras repeatedly showed Bama fans in various stages of shock and despair throughout the game, and head coach Nick Saban admitted after the game that he enjoyed the misery as much as the biggest Bama hater.
“These people have had it too good for too long,” said Saban on the field after the game, smirking while pointing at a section of distraught Alabama fans. “Look at them. They’re pathetic. They were spoiled by me. And then we lose two games and this is how they act? Crying? Good. I’m glad they’re crushed. They disgust me.”
Saban signed a large contract extension with Alabama last month and he says the new contract coupled with the recent losing has been an ideal mix.
“I’ll admit, part of the reason — no, the main reason — I was interested in Texas was because I thought it would be hilarious to rip the heart out of Alabama fans by leaving,” said the coach. “But the way it turned out, I got paid and I got to see them get all sad and teary. It’s the best of both worlds. Plus, some of these idiots are probably now wondering: ‘Oh, no. Saban is past his prime, but we’re stuck with him because of his new contract.’ Ha! Maybe so. Maybe the future is all Auburn and Gus Malzahn. Could very well be. And if that’s the case, I say: suck it. Suck it long. Suck it hard. You should have enjoyed it more when we were on top. These idiots meant nothing to me then and they mean nothing to me now.”
The coach then made his way off the field past a section a section of Alabama fans while rolling his eyes and mouthing “Suck it up, pussies.”
Saban is expected to get right to work on the 2014-2015 season and said he planned to watch game film on the flight back to Alabama.
“We have a lot of things to fix in all three phases,” he said. “And I also have a lot of clips of sad Bama fans to laugh at.”
