The Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated more than halfway through the season, but many football experts have called the team the worst 9-0 team in NFL history. But that’s a status the team is willing to embrace, if need be.
Head coach Andy Reid has been reminding his team of how pathetic they are week after week.
“I keep telling them how much they suck and that they better suck less if they want anyone to respect them,” said Reid. “I wish it would motivate them, but they keep just going out there ever week and winning every game by 10 points or even less. It’s like they have no self-respect.”
One of the reasons the Chiefs are so willing to accept failure may be that the team is lacking in leadership, as evidenced by comments from quarterback Alex Smith.
“I guess it would be okay with me if we went down as the worst team to ever win a Super Bowl,” said Smith. “I think I could live with that if I have to. I mean, being undefeated and winning the Super Bowl would be good, no? It’s better than nothing right.”
Many of Smith’s teammates echo his feelings. But even if the Chiefs did manage to go undefeated, it would be thanks to feasting off of a weak schedule. For example, their 2013 schedule features not a single team who has made this year’s playoffs or even one team capable of beating the lowly Kansas City Chiefs.
“Hey, I’m not going to say I’m happy with how this season has gone,” said running back Jamaal Charles. “I’m embarrassed. But you just have to keep your head up and go on. We’ll do our best to turn this thing around.”
