Despite releasing its promotional giveaway schedule back in March, the Los Angeles Angels announced one additional giveaway night schedule for this season — one team general manager Jerry Dipoto said he is “very excited about.”
On Friday, September 20th, at the start of the team’s final homestand that will mercifully end their 2013 season, the Angels will have Josh Hamilton Giveaway night.
“The first fan in attendance gets Josh Hamilton,” said Dipoto. “And not a bobblehead of him or a figurine or a poster. A real Josh Hamilton. The Josh Hamilton. The one and only. The first fan in attendance gets him to keep. What do you think? Good, right?”
Dipoto stressed that Hamilton is an “authentic 2010 MVP and a five-time All-Star. No other team has ever given something like this away.”
There are a few catches involved, however. Upon entering the stadium, fans will pass by a sign that informs them of the promotion and states that in taking Hamilton, they must pick up at least 50-percent of the $106 million left on his contract for 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 “no questions asked. No refunds or exchanges.”
The phones in the team’s ticket offices have already lit with fans who have already purchased tickets for the September 20th game trying to get rid of them so they’re not stuck with the former star mired in a slump stretching to last season.
“I don’t want to somehow get stuck with Josh Hamilton because I have a ticket to that game,” said Angels fan Jon Bannister, who planned to take his family to the game. “That guy sucks.”
The Angels also announced that not only will the first fan who enters the stadium on September 20th receive Josh Hamilton, but the second fan will be given Albert Pujols.
