10 Great Sports Debate Questions … Answered Once and For All!

10 Great Sports Debates and Their Definitive Answers – Image 1

#1 – Is LeBron James better than Michael Jordan was in his prime?

Unfortunately, there is just no way to know this because Michael Jordan’s prime fell when LeBron James was a little kid, so they never played against each other.

#2 – Is LeBron James a better player than Kobe Bryant?

Similar to Jordan vs. LeBron, Kobe and LeBron’s primes didn’t exactly match up, but they at least have been able to play during the same era. However, basketball is a team sport, not an individual sport. And how would we agree on what makes a player better. Championships? Statistics? Again, basketball is a team sport and so many other factors come into play. All we know for sure is that both LeBron James and Kobe Bryant are very good basketball players. This speaks to the previous question, as well. Even if Michael Jordan and LeBron James had played against each other, it would likely be impossible to make a clear-cut case that one was better than the other.

#3 – Will Tiger Woods break Jack Nicklaus’ record for career majors?

The only way to know this is to wait and find out. Woods is currently 37 years old and in very good shape, so we could have the answer in the next 18 months or not for 25 years. Time will determine the answer. It’s as simple as that.

#4 – Who is the best quarterback in the NFL?

There is no way to answer this with a single name. There are quarterbacks in the NFL who are very good at their job, but there is no clear “best” and every quarterback’s play varies from week to week and season to season.

#5 – Which sport has the best athletes?

Supporters of most every sport can make a compelling case for their sport having the best athletes. All that we can know for sure is that being athletic is beneficial to playing sports with success.

#6 – Which city is the best sports town?

Most every city thinks it supports its teams well. Fan support often largely hinges on how well a city’s sports teams perform. That is not something fans can control. A city that loves its teams today could refuse to support them five years from now. It’s a cycle. This is a long way of saying that there is no best sports town.

#7 – Are things like golf, bowling and auto racing real sports?

The only way to answer this is if we all unanimously agree upon a clear definition of what a “sport” is. Until then, this question will have to remain unanswered. Sorry.

#8 – Will anyone ever hit .400 again?

We’ll see.

#9 – Who is the greatest athlete of all-time?

It’s insane to even entertain this question. Billions upon billions of people have lived on the planet over millions of years. How could anyone make the case that, say, Jim Thorpe is the greatest athlete of all-time, when there could have been some freakishly athletic Mayan farmer we never knew about? Talking about this for even a second is a waste of time.

#10 – Is Joe Flacco elite?

No.
