SP: You are an athlete. Give us some details and any of your greatest achievement (and/or most humiliating failures) …
Nikki:I am a cross country runner at my school. I'd have to say that my greatest achievements are all team victories. I feel great when I get a record best time in a race or come in first place, but nothing compares to winning a championship and being able to share that with 12 to 20 other teammates. In high school my cross country team won county championships my junior and senior years, so I'd say that those were my greatest achievements.
SP: Defense wins championships. Except in cross country. What's your favorite sport to watch?
Nikki:My favorite sport to watch live is obviously track or cross country … even marathons. I look forward to the summer OlympicsMy favorite sport to watch on television is probably football. I enjoy watching how aggressive football players are.
SP:Who is your favorite team? Favorite athlete?
My favorite professional team is the Yankees. I've grown up watching them my whole life. My favorite player on the team from when I actually used to watch is Jorge Posada. My favorite overall professional athlete is Kara Goucher. She is a professional runner and impresses me every time I see her compete.
SP: Another Kara Goucher fan? Real original!Anything else interesting you want to add?
Nikki:People always ask me why do you run?? Everyone sees it as so much torture, and I guess I'd have to agree since I wake up every morning at 6 am and go for a 6-9 mile run, so I never have a good answer to give them haha. But as a kid I sucked at sports which was a big downer.I even sucked at running.. I started out with a 12 minute mile haha, but I joined the cross country team because they didn't cut anyone from the team and I actually wound up being good at it and it got me a Division 1 scholarship to a school that I love, so I guess there is a sport for everyone. You just have to find it!
