New York Yankees: 2010 Preview

SportsPickle is previewing each MLB team as the 2010 season opens. Today:New York Yankees (2009: 103-59, World Series champion).

STARTING PITCHING … CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett performed last year just as the Yankees had hoped and should do so again. Andy Pettitte continues to misremember his age and pitch well, while Philip Hughes provides youth and a whole lot of upside. The Yankees also added Javier Vazquez, who was 15-10 with a 2.87 ERA for Atlanta last year. Hopefully he's better than that Javier Vazques the Yankees had a few years ago. That guy was terrible.
LINEUPGone are Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui, in are Curtis Granderson and Nick Johnson. Granderson will upgrade the outfield defense, while Johnson will provide a dependable bat at DH until he is felled by some sort of fat/out-of-shape guy ailment. (Dip elbow, perhaps?) Alex Rodriguez should have a big year, now that he has silenced his critics and can relax. Let's just hope he doesn't relax too much. Centaur farts really stink.
BULLPEN … Mariano Rivera, Joba Chamberlain, Damaso Marte, blah blah blah. Who cares. Here is Chan Ho Park talking about his diarrhea.

BENCH … Ramiro Pena, Marcus Thames, Francisco Cervelli, Randy Winn. Hey, $200 million can't also buy a good bench. Brian Cashman is not a miracle worker, people.
OVERALLThe Yankees have to be the odds-on favorite to win the World Series again. Yeah, Yankees fans!!!
