U.S. Olympic team increases medal lead over hated Soviets

With six more Olympic medals won on Wednesday, the U.S. team ran its total medal count at the Vancouver Games to 14 and, more importantly, extended its commanding medal lead over the rival Soviets to 14-0. The 2010 Games are just the latest example of American Olympic domination over the Soviets, a trend many experts say started in 1992 at Albertville, France. "I don't know if it was the soft snow conditions at Albertville or what," said USA Today Olympics reporter Christine Brennan, "but the Soviet Union suddenly fell apart. Their collapse athletically over the past two decades has only been trumped by that of Notre Dame football."
