Martin Brodeur hoping to be a more giving goalie in the new year

Fresh off setting the NHL record for most career shutouts by a goaltender, Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils says he has started to reevaluate his approach to life and hockey. "I don't like how negative I am all the time," he said. "Saying no to this shot, and no to that shot. It's always my first instinct, to say no, to turn people away. But that's selfish. I need to consider the feelings of others, too." Devils head coach Jacques Lemaire says he supports his goalie's decision to improve as a person. "Life is more than hockey," he said. "Of course, if he does this, Martin should know that we'll cut his ass on the spot."
