NHL Network Deportes lands its first viewer

The NHL Network’s new Spanish language offshoot – NHL Network Deportes – celebrated its first viewer today when the Nielsen media research company reported a viewer briefly tuned into the channel.“This viewer is the start of big things,” said NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. “Once this viewer tells a few friends about NHL Network Deportes and they tell some friends and they tell some friends and so forth and so on, soon every barrio in America will be hooked on NHL hockey.”Bettman credited the acquisition of a viewer to the hard work and longterm vision of the league’s marketing department.“This is the best marketing department in sports,” he said. “They recognized that Spanish-speakers are the fastest growing population and that they probably want other viewing options than those awful soap operas and yelling at Lou Dobbs.”Nielsen identified the viewer as man named Scott Gomez.
