There are only a few days left until the first Saturday of the college football season and SportsPickle is counting down the top stories of 2009. Today: No. 9, Michigan.
Heed Rich Rodriguez's words, Michigan fans: "Get a life."
In Year 2 of his rebuilding/demolition of the program, things don't appear to be getting any better at Michigan. And that's why we should watch. With depressing reports out of South Bend that Notre Dame may be on the uptick, Michigan could be the only once-proud program whose embarrassing decline we can get our schadenfreude on with. (Michigan and Notre Dame meet Saturday, September 12th at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Mark your calendar. With feces if you want to be appropriate.)
Consider the recent headlines out of Ann Arbor:
Rich Rodriguez looks to tap walk-on talent
Michigan plans to play three quarterbacks
These are not the kinds of things you want to hear out of a top-flight program. These are the kinds of things you want to hear when you show up at the park and see a group of guys playing flag football. "Really? You could use another guy? And I can maybe even play quarterback for a little? Sweet!"
I'll let Jeff Daniels take it from here.
It's good advice, college football teams. Go to Michigan. Play them in football. You'll get a positive result.
